You can choose your preferred map from some OpenStreetMap map providers with some details for Outdoor purposes. For offline usage you can import OSM vector map files for free.
You can import OSM vector maps (Mapsforge format) for countrys or regions. Some map sources for vector map files have contour lines included to give an visual hint of the topology.
Record your own track while hiking or biking. Import tracks from GPX-files from cloud, local storage or mail. You can search for tracks nearby or with certain criterias with the included search from GPSies.com
Add your own waypoints at your desired coordinates. Import GPX-files with waypoints and show them on the map. You can use each waypoint as target for navigation or just to get an orientation on the map. You can export your favorite waypoints as GPX-file.
The POI (Point of Interest) online service provided by maaloo itself with data by OpenStreetMap. Points of Interest (POI) are useful waypoints like restaurants, bars, shops or shelters. Find a shelter in the forest or a nice beer garden for a short break while hiking. You can save the POIs as favorite waypoints for offline purposes.
If you choose a target waypoint as a straight line between you and the target, you get acoustic feedback by voice or sounds if you come nearer to this point. This is useful e.g. for Geocaching.
You can use a compass overlay on the map or use the compass as seperate page. The compass page show the direction of your target waypoint and your heading. The map can be aligned to the compass to rotate together with your phone.
You can navigate to your target waypoint by a straight line on the map together with proximity alerts. With online access you can get a voice guided route. You can edit your route by hand and set turn instructions at major positions. You can open your preferred navigation app with a waypoint as parameter from this app as external app call.
